Benzene in Miami-Dade Well

Reporter Isaiah Thompson looks into the story of how Bill Brant, then director of Miami-Dade County Water and Sewer Department, discovered that benzene, a cancer-causing chemical, was detected at a county water treatment facility – Northwest Wellfiled, which supplies the majority of the county’s drinking water. One of 15 wells there had registered benzene levels five times the limit established by the Environmental Protection Agency.
